Show your support for Boujemaa in his recovery from a serious illness

It was about 10 years ago when I first heard the music of Twatoun. Being about 15 years old I was asking myself questions about who I am, where do I come from. Common questions for people of that age. During that time, and earlier times, things weren’t easy for young Imazighen living in Europe that were researching their roots. Information was not publicly accessible.

Many stories about culture, identity and the struggle for recognition were told through music. Twatoun was and still is one of those bands that can reach into peoples hearts with their music. Through their music you can hear about struggles. Personal struggles but also more in general legitimate human struggles. Twatoun’s sound eventually led to the fact that Boujemaa was imprisoned for several years in a Moroccan prison. This was the price he paid for all of us. The story they told through their music reached many generations. It could be said that their sound is timeless. In spite of hearing their songs many many times I still get goosebumps when hearing their music.

When hearing that Boujemaa was diagnosed with a serious illness I, and many others, thought that he deserves a sign of appreciation from all the people he reached with his music, for more than 30 years. We hope that people can tell their story about Twatoun and Boujemaa by leaving him a message on the website or a video message on youtube. Boujemaa’s financial situation, as that of many Amazigh artists, is not that great. It will be appreciated if people could donate whatever they could miss in order to financially support Boujemaa.
